Logistics For Hikers – Getting to the 100K

The 100K starts in the parking lot behind the Thompson Boat Center (2900 Virginia Ave, NW, Washington, DC) off the Rock Creek & Potomac Pkwy in Georgetown, just east of Washington Harbour. Options for getting there include getting a ride from someone, using the Metro, using a taxi service, or driving yourself.

Logistical Notes:

  1. The Foggy Bottom/GWU Metro station is about 0.5 miles from the start. The ODH return shuttle can take you from the hike’s end point to this station. Metro operates until 3 AM Saturday and Sunday morning. If you use it to get to the start, make sure you check the time of your train and allow plenty of time for delays. For information about the Metro schedule and cost, go to www.wmata.com.

  2. Traffic patterns in the area are tricky. If you go by car and are not familiar with the location, allow extra time.

  3. Do not plan to park at the starting parking lot—Parking there is limited to 3 hours. Long-term street parking in the immediate area is not available. Parking laws are strictly enforced with tickets and towing. There are commercial garages nearby that may allow overnight parking.
