Registration
Registration for the 2008 One Day Hike (April 26) was open from December 1, 2007 to April 14, 2008 only and is now closed. CANCELLATIONS & REFUNDS To cancel a registration and obtain a refund (minus a $5 non-refundable processing fee), a request must be sent to the ODH registrar (michaelmclain48@yahoo.com) before registration closes on the date shown above. LIABILITY NOTICE To participate in the One Day Hike, all hikers must be registered in advance of the event and must sign the liability waiver at the trailhead on hike day. All such participants will be responsible for their own safety and well-being before, during, and after the event. Neither the Sierra Club nor the Metropolitan Washington Regional Outings Program will be responsible for any loss, damage, or injury liability incurred by registered participants. SHUTTLE FROM BOLIVAR See Planning for information about ODH transportation options and registering for a shuttle ride from the hike's end point in Bolivar. ORDERING ODH T-SHIRTS Go to ODH T-shirt to order ODH T-shirts by mail. CELEBRATION HIKE & PICNIC A few weeks after each One Day Hike, the ODH Planning Committee--under the auspices of the Sierra Club's Potomac Region Outings (SCPRO, formerly the Metropolitan Washington Regional Outings Program, MWROP)--organizes a hike and picnic to celebrate the ODH. Email invitations are sent to ODH hikers and volunteers, but the hike and picnic are open to all. People are welcome to attend the hike or picnic or both and there is no need to sign up beforehand. The 2008 ODH picnic (a pot-luck & cookout) will be held at Carderock between the Potomac River and C&O Canal towpath in Maryland, about 10 miles from Washington, on June 8, 2008, and starting around noon. (See below for directions.) The organizers will supply hotdogs, hamburgers, veggie burgers, and the standard trimmings, along with plates, cups, and utensils, while participants are invited to bring appetizers, side dishes, or desserts, along with nonalcoholic beverages. The picnic will be preceded by a set-your-own-pace-and-distance hike of 6 to 10 miles along the C&O Canal towpath, from Carderock to the Great Falls area and back. To participate in the hike, meet in the parking lot near the picnic area at 9 AM. (See below for directions.) Information about this hike and picnic will be posted on SCPRO's website (www.mwrop.org) in April. Directions (Map): From the Capital Beltway (I-495) just north of the American Legion Bridge, take exit 41, and follow the exit ramp to get onto the Clara Barton Parkway heading west. Go 0.8 mile and take the first possible exit on the right, marked by a brown sign saying "Carderock/Carderock Division NavSurWarCen." At the top of the exit ramp turn left and cross over the parkway, then continue straight to a T-intersection. Turn right and then immediately turn left into first parking lot. |
