The One Day Hike (ODH) is a challenging and fully supported annual event that comprises two hikes of 100km (62.1 miles) and 50km (31.1 miles):  The 100K starts at 3 AM in Washington, DC; and the 50K starts at 10 AM from Whites Ferry, MD. Both hikes proceed on the C&O Canal towpath along the Potomac River, ending in Harpers Ferry/Bolivar, WV, by midnight.

For the 34th One Day Hike, a record number of 217 stalwarts from 23 states started walking towards Harpers Ferry.  They ranged in age from preteens to late seventies (also probably a record), and a majority of them completed the hike (53 of the 97 100K-starters finished, as did 114 of the 120 50K-starters).  In addition, 91 volunteers helped lead the training hikes and plan and stage the event itself, including keeping track of some 300 people scattered along so many miles of the towpath and almost 22 hours of the day.

The One Day Hike is sponsored by the Sierra Club's Potomac Region Outings (SCPRO, formerly the Metropolitan Washington Regional Outings Program, MWROP).
